WHAT DO THE GOVERNORS,

known as the Local Governing Committee (LGC), do at Hungerford Academy?

The LGC is a strategic committee of the St Bart’s Multi Academy Trust (SBMAT) and alongside the Trust has the best interests of Hungerford Academy and the local community at heart. The Department for Education states that the core functions are

· Ensuring clarity of vision, ethos and strategic direction;

· Holding executive leaders to account for the educational performance of the academy and the well-being of its pupils.

These functions are fulfilled in partnership with the Trust and reference the Scheme of Delegation1

There are seven governors that make up the LGC, plus the Headteacher, four directly appointed by the Trust, two elected by the parents and one staff governor, each taking on various areas of responsibility2. We all care passionately about the safety and the education of your children and each try to bring our little bit of expertise to making Hungerford a better school. We never think that we have achieved everything and are always looking to continue our training. So here at Hungerford we endeavour to be ambitious for all the children and have a commitment to continuous school improvement. As a result, we have set a clear vision, ethos and strategic direction for the school which is captured in the vision and values statement, where we clearly state that ‘Our golden values are at the very heart of all that we do uniting us a whole school family. We try to make one another happy, we encourage the children to show curiosity about the world, to love one another, to have confidence, to show resilience and to be tolerant.

To achieve this the full LGC meet at least once a term, governors visit the school regularly meeting and talking to the staff and children, shadow learning walks with the senior leaders, attend Inset days and the Chair of Governors meets with the Hub Leader. To keep parents informed the Part I minutes, once approved, are available from the office.

As governors we endeavour to be accessible as possible, you may see us around school, you can contact us via the school office or e-mail the Clerk to Governors, if you would like to know more. However, we do ask that if the issue relates specifically to your child you use the channels put in place by the school staff to ensure that the matter is dealt with appropriately and in a timely manner.

At Hungerford, we have a Local Governing Committee comprised currently of six members.

Before becoming a governor at Hungerford, Anne had much experience in the world of education, working in nursery, primary and secondary schools in varying capacities as a teacher, head teacher, adviser and local authority manager.
She was invited to join the Local Governing Board by the CEO, Lisa Sarikaya and after visiting the school did not hesitate to agree to be a governor and to be the Chair of Governors. Anne, along with all the other governors, is committed to ensuring that Hungerford becomes a great school, where the children really enjoy school and where the parents feel valued.
Anne presently works for SBMAT as an independent consultant and supports schools in Cheshire East, Cheshire West & Chester, Stoke and Shropshire and is an associate for a Governor Training Consultancy.
During her down time Anne enjoys walking in the lovely countryside near her home, running – particularly on the flat and downhill! She is the Church Warden at the local church, the secretary for the village community association and a volunteer at the New Vic theatre.

I was appointed Principal of Hungerford Primary Academy in November 2020. As a Governor, I work alongside a supportive team of governors, people who all have the same shared vision that every child is given the best possible opportunity in our school, be it academically, creatively, socially or emotionally.

We have the highest expectations of progress and attainment. Through our challenging curriculum we inspire learners to ‘love to learn and love to learn’: to equip pupils for further education, life in the 21st century and for future employment. We see our school as being at the heart of the community and we encourage our children to value and celebrate the diversities they encounter in this community and the wider world.

I have worked at Hungerford for over 4 years as a class teacher and I am passionate about providing our children with the best possible education so that each individual reaches their true potential. I have worked in year groups across KS1 and KS2 during my career and I am currently teaching in Year 4.
I thoroughly enjoy my role as Staff Governor as I feel it provides me with further opportunities to work alongside staff, families and our community to ensure our pupils receive an enriching and inspiring curriculum.

I live in the Hungerford area and have two children who attend Hungerford Primary Academy. My eldest son is in Year 5 and my youngest son is in Pre-School, so I have been part of the Hungerford community for several years and have many more ahead. I work as a Change Manager for an IT Managed Services provider, where I help to facilitate any changes that our customers require to the services we provide. As a Parent Governor, I feel very privileged to be able to contribute to the continued development of Hungerford as am passionate about the education our children receive.

There is also a Trust Board of Directors, the body that oversees the running of The St. Bart’s Multi-Academy Trust, meets at least once per term.
