Within school we offer a clear pathway of support for our children.

Our aim is to equip our children with the strategies to be able to manage their own wellbeing as they grow. This is taught throughout progressive and detailed Personal Development Curriculum.

For those children who require further support we offer a comprehensive package including:

ELSAs are Emotional Literacy Support Assistants. The role of the ELSA within Hungerford is to enable children to feel safe and secure in order that they can reach their full potential. Our aim is to develop confident, resilient and emotionally literate young people who are able to fully access their learning successfully.

ELSAs can help with the following:

  • Loss and Bereavement
  • Self esteem
  • Social skills
  • Emotional literacy
  • Relationships / Friendships
  • AnxietyAll children will face challenges throughout their lives. The impact that these challenges can have will vary according to a wide range of circumstances. The ELSA’s role is to build positive relationships, enabling the child to feel safe enough to explore their feelings and thoughts. Through this process, the child will become equipped with the skills they need to be successful in all areas.

School will assess children and identify those that may require this level of support, which can be delivered either within a group or on a 1:1 basis.

Drawing and Talking is a proactive therapeutic intervention that aims to support children who are currently going through, or have had, any trauma as well as those that need extra support in their every day life. This is delivered by a trained practitioner in school and, like ELSA, is provided for those children who school have identified as needing this level of support.

Hungerford is fortunate to have access to an Education Mental Health Support Practitioner from the Mental Health Support Team. We are therefore able to provide clinical interventions and support for out pupils through a referral and consultation system. This service works with school to not only provide support to children and families who need it but also give our staff advice on how best support within school.

Again, school will assess and identify those children in need of this level of support.

In conjunction with the school based support there are also a number of different agencies who are able to offer advice to parents and young people. Please click on the links below for more information or contact school.
