Miss Hassall and Miss Cadman are the Teaching Assistants in Year 1.

Essentials

Children need reading books and reading records in school every day.  Every child has their own tray and peg in their class. Children are not permitted to bring in their own pencil case this year. Wellington boots can be kept in school if children wish to put them on for playtimes on rainy days.

Tuesday and Thursday – Your child will need to come to school in their PE kit on these days.

Your class teacher will inform you via text when it is your child’s turn for outdoor education. They will need an outdoor clothing that you don’t mind getting very muddy and wellington boots.

Every day, the children take part in fun activities to deepen understanding and develop new concepts taught.  We undertake daily Phonics, English, and maths lessons, underpinning key objectives from the curriculum using our iPads to support learning.

Our foundation subjects covered in the afternoons include: History, Geography, RE, Art, Design Technology, Science, Music, Computing, Personal Development and PE.

Children are expected to read daily and we encourage comments to be written in reading records.

To help to prepare children for the Phonics Screening Check in June we will also send home weekly word reading lists.

Each child also has a login for ‘Numbots’ and are encourage to spend 10 minutes daily on this to help improve their mathematical fluency.
