Miss Harris is the Teaching Assistant
Essentials
Children need reading books and reading records in school every day. Every child has their own locker and tray in their class. Reading books and reading record, homework, letters and any other stationery should be stored in classroom trays. Children need to have a P.E kit and wear this on P.E days and appropriate outdoor education clothes. Wellington boots can be kept in their locker over the winter months to allow use of the school field in all weathers.
PE Day is Thursday and the children will be going Swimming in Autumn Term.
Your class teacher will inform you via email when it is your child’s turn for outdoor education. They will need an outdoor kit that you don’t mind getting very muddy and Wellington boots.
Every day, the children take part in fun activities to deepen understanding and develop new concepts taught. We undertake daily SPaG, English, reading and maths lessons, underpinning key objectives from the curriculum using our iPads to support learning.
Where possible, we adopt a thematic approach to our learning and endeavour to link as many lessons as possible to our termly topic. Our foundation subjects covered in the afternoons include: History, Geography, RE, Art, Design Technology, French, Science, Music, Computing and Personal Development. P.E days are stated above and parents will be informed in a timely manner when they have swimming lessons.
Children are expected to read daily and we encourage comments (yours and theirs) to be made in reading records. Reading really is integral to learning so please do read at home. Any books can be read, not just age-appropriate chapter books or levelled books but magazines, non-fiction books or even recipes! Please record any book read in reading records. Ultimately, we are encouraging children to have a love of reading.
In Year 6, children will be set weekly homework online and/or set homework in Year 6 homework books. Year 6 is an important year and most of the homework set will consolidate learning and help to prepare children for the end of KS2 SATs tests next summer.
